v1.0 Rules Update – live now

First off; thank you for sticking with us, sending feedback, and generally cheering us on while we built this. Shipping the official v1.0 rules has been our top priority for a while, and we’re genuinely thrilled to roll it out now. This release is about getting you into the new edition quickly, while letting players who want to keep their ongoing games uninterrupted stay the course. It’s a big milestone for the app and for the community—thanks for helping us get here.

Compendium

You’ll find both editions side by side in the Compendium. By default the app now shows v1.0 so that new players and fresh rosters see the current standard. If you’re still running an ongoing narrative or justprefer the older set, Playtest v1.63 remains available under Prerelease Rules. We want the Compendium to be a trustworthy reference, so you can confidently mix research, list-building, and table prep without second-guessing where to look.

Old Warbands

Your existing Warbands won’t be forced to change. They’ll continue using Playtest v1.63 so active campaigns remain stable. This was a deliberate choice: we know nothing is worse than a mid-season format switch. That said, upcoming improvements and new features will primarily target v1.0, so when you’re ready, you’ll get the best experience on the latest ruleset.

Maintaining Old Warbands

While we would love to keep supporting all versions of Trench Crusade, as it stands further work will likely impact performance. Our current plan is to maintain 1.6.3 for the following 6 Months after which, only the current release rules will be supported (and all warbands will be migrated to release) – this plan is subject to change.

New Warbands

Starting a new roster is straightforward. When you create a Warband, you’ll be prompted to choose the rules version: stick with Playtest v1.63 for compatibility with older campaigns, or start with v1.0 to enjoy the newest balance and design. No hidden toggles or complicated steps—just pick and play.

Upgrading Old Warbands

If you’ve got a favorite Playtest Warband and want to bring it forward, you can upgrade it in the Warband Builder. The upgrade is one-way so once you move to v1.0 you can’t revert that Warband to Playtest. We made the flow as clean as possible so you can keep your identity, history, and progress while aligning with the new edition.

To upgrade, go into the warband tab of your warband and click the upgrade button.

What’s next for 1.0

We intentionally shipped the core upgrade quickly so you can get playing today. Over the next updates, we’ll focus on smoothing edges and making versioning more transparent throughout the app. On our short list are:

  • Better UI Design in the compendium
  • More obvious indicators for each Warband’s rules version
  • Performance tuning across views that handle lots of data
  • Quality-of-life upgrades in the compendium like links to related rules and references
  • Improve compendium navigation
