Trench Companion Alpha is Live
After nearly six months in development, the first public release of the Trench Companion is available for the community. This build is not by any means perfect, and we expect the community to be better at finding bugs than our small team is, but we are confident this alpha will showcase what we can do, and how good things can get by working together with you, the community.
About this Version
What To Expect
- A comprehensive Compendium for all game rules, campaign rules, factions, equipment, mercenaries, etc
- Functional scenario generator, with codes that allow you and your friends to see the same generated scenario across multiple devices.
- The warband builder, a vastly more comprehensive evolution of the Trench Companion builder.
- Automatically validates what equipment you can add, and to who, based on your unique warband.
- Handles the influence of models, abilities, skills, injuries, etc on the warband.
- Responds to your selections, no need to check what Goetics are available to your Envy Praetor
- Warns you when your warband doesn’t meet certain requirements (Mammon’s Chosen must keep up appearances after all).
- User accounts, which lets you access your content across devices.
- Build your warbands at home, then open your phone to view them at games night.
- Add your friends to easily view their profiles.
- Click on a profile’s warband to see what the community is up to.
What To Expect (to go wrong)
- The system that supports the warband builder is complex, and certain interactions may cause issues that haven’t been discovered yet.
- Game updates require time to be reflected in the companion. Subtle effects may be missed as well.
- Trench Companion’s server has not been tested with a large volume of people, so we may need to adjust the resources spent on the server to better match usage.
How To Help
This alpha release is intended to whip the Trench Companion into its final shape, and we can’t do that without the community at large, here’s how you can help make things better:
Submitting Bug Reports
When you encounter something you think shouldn’t be happening, we encourage you to report the issue via the official Trench Crusade discord thread for the Trench Companion, or to our email at support@trench-companion.com. When submitting a bug, we would appreciate:
- Any screenshots of the issue.
- What you were doing leading up to the problem.
- If the issue is incorrect data, please provide a reference for the correct information.
- If the issue is with a warband, and you have created it under a warband, providing your profile would be appreciated.
Providing Feedback
Think the Trench Companion is missing something? Let us know! Reach us via the discord thread or our email. If enough people push for a new feature, we can begin directing our energy towards giving the people what they want.
When to Expect a Response
As a small development team, we cannot respond to everything in a timely manner. However, be assured we are reading all the feedback and, behind the scenes, are noting down every issue reported and will work on fixing things as soon as possible. We will never be disappointed to get feedback from the community, so don’t be discouraged from contacting us!
Why We Need You
Without the community, the Trench Companion is meaningless, and that means we will be looking to the community as our light in the darkness. Each bug report is vital information we need to make the app better, and each piece of feedback lets us build a map to direct us for how we shape the app in the future. Make your voice heard! Every voice counts.
What Do We Have Planned
Full Release of the Trench Companion
The alpha release will be used to gauge any major missing features, fix any errors in our data, and squash as many bugs as possible. Once the rate of bugs slows down, we will look to fully releasing the Trench Companion as a complete product, with all the bells and whistles! Lord (or Mammon, or Beelzebub, etc) willing, we aim for a full release in early September 2025.
Our Next Major Update
Following the release, we will continue to listen to community feedback and squash bugs as we prep to release the next major update, the Campaign and Play modes!
- Campaigns allow you to create and join other players in a long-form campaign. Keep track of victories and exploration, see how your warband grows over time, and record your journey in the trenches.
- Play Mode will allow users to keep track of a single game. Glorious Deeds, victory points, who got sent out of action, and how many times you’ve activated your once-per-battle abilities.
Integrating Community Content
As a community-project at heart, we want to support others in the Trench Crusade community. Currently, we feature amazing painters/sculptors and their creations – but we have big dreams! Further democratizing the API, sharing our hand-written data, showcasing new Trench Crusade project, and allowing for people to bring their homebrew into the Companion are all aspirations of ours.
