In the year 1102, following the Year of Three Battles, the city of Hebron, one of the Four Holy Cities to the Jewish people, the City of Earth, home of the Cave of Patriarchs, and burial site of matriarchs and patriarchs, was beset by followers of the devil Bifrons. Defended by a small resistance made up of Christians, Jews, and Muslims, they survived a siege lasting forty days and forty nights. Eventually, being pushed back to the structure surrounding the cave itself. Arupal the Gift-giver, one of Bifrons' most dedicated mortal priests, grew frustrated with the protracted conflict and began a profane ritual, aiming to channel the ability of his patron to move bodies from their resting places. He aimed to steal the bodies of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Rebekah, Leah, and even Adam and Eve, who were said to be buried there. While the ritual was successfully performed, something that could only be the intervention of the All-Mighty occurred. The City of Earth descended into the land, the entire city vanishing into the stone to a depth of 60 cubits [if folk tales are to be believed], and with that, Hebron was lost to Faithful and Fallen alike. Now in the year of our lord 1914, news has begun to spread across the Levantine Front of the Great War. Rumors of excavations in the area of Hebron, whose aim is to unearth the lost city and claim the remains of all who resided in the city when it sank into the earth. The forces of the Faithful know not what dark intent the Fallen have for the remains of these storied men and women. Although the city lay deep behind the borders of the Heretic Domains at the behest of the rabbis of the Kabbalistic School of Prague the Duke of The Principality of New Antioch has been spurred to action, in the lands of The Iron Sultanate petitioning by the Jewish population has reached the Sultan himself. War Prophets of the Trench Pilgrim processions preach messages of sacred duty and righteous intent to liberate the remains of the line of Abraham from the Shadows of the Damned...but this has also roused darker forces. The Heretic Legions set their sights on the city, eager to claim ownership of it in exaltation of their infernal patrons and their own vanity. Strains of The Cult of the Black Grail salivate at the prospect of corrupting the City of Earth and consuming it with plague and decay. There are even rumors that the forces of The Court of the Seven-Headed Serpent have turned their attention to the brewing conflict. With all eyes on Hebron, the forces of the Faithful and Fallen alike begin to draw plans, tension hangs thick in the air, warbands muster, and none but the All-Mighty knows how things will come to pass.
